Hooray for SPC

Isis Town and Country - - Opinion -

A VERY heartening piece of news has just appeared in a Rural Weekly pointing out SPC, the Shepparton Preserving Co, the last big Australian fruit processor is firmly back in production after some years of teetering on the brink of closure. The Victorian Govternment has invested $22 million and the parent company $78 million to modernise the plant and make it more efficient to compete with overseas imports especially Italian tomato products. Public support has kept the plant going with some shoppers paying almost double in a show of patriotism. With up to 5000 jobs at stake the future is now more secure with production speeds increased with modern machinery. Although prices may still be a little more than the overseas competition for those who can afford the extra you can be secure in knowing that you are helping to keep our economy strong and I applaud you.
