New sports equipment for school a grand idea
IT WAS a grand gesture from the Grand Hotel that surprised the students and staff of Childers State School last week when they received brand new sporting equipment.
The staff were thrilled when the Grand Hotel donated funds to buy new sports gear.
The beaming faces of the students when they first laid eyes on the bright white soccer goal were priceless.
All the students were extremely excited to have new gear to play with.
Deputy principal Paul Russo said he was thrilled with the donation, which would go to great use.
“Our school students are very sports-orientated and now on wet days we have new equipment for indoor sports,” Mr Russo said.
“We have many high achievers in sport at the school and the new equipment will assist in training,”
The school’s physical education teacher Kerri Wills said the new equipment was a pleasant surprise and the students were really excited.
“The new equipment will replace a lot of the old and worn-out gear and equipment.”
Representing the Grand Hotel was manager Greg Brown. He was thanked by students and staff and handed a certificate of appreciation.
Mr Brown said he enjoyed sport as a child and schools always needed sporting equipment.
“Every Friday afternoon the hotel holds raffles and with the money raised we decided to donate funds to the school to purchase sporting goods,” he said.
“It’s about locals supporting locals, especially the kids.
“It was great to see the brand new goals and all the sports equipment.
“I was mad about sport and the school has many rising stars across many sports.”
School principal Robyn Philpot said the donation was a tremendous surprise.
“I want to thank the Grand Hotel owners Pam and Dennis Corliss, manager Greg Brown and all the locals that purchase raffle tickets.
“It’s great to see locals supporting fundraisers and the school is very grateful for the donation.”
The students thanked the community of Childers for supporting their school.
