Pet dogs snatched for fights

Isis Town and Country - - Kolan News -

A WARNING to be vigilant has been issued to all dog owners in the Bundaberg region following reports of dogs being taken, or attempted to be taken, from properties, presumably for use in organised dog fights.

Bundaberg Regional Council’s Health and Regulatory Services spokesman Peter Heuser said it appeared a person falsely claiming to be a Council Animal Control Officer was involved in attempting to take dogs that were roaming or were in enclosed yards.

“Council has received a couple of inquiries regarding this person who is reported to be a Caucasian male in their 30s driving a white Mitsubishi Triton ute with two cages on the back.

“While council’s animal control officer drives a similar vehicle the main difference is that council’s cages are mounted on a trayback while the ute in question has a weldback/styleside shape with the cages in the back.

“The person involved has been reported as operating in the Calavos/Alloway and Moore Park areas.”

Cr Heuser said residents should always seek identification from any person purporting to be a council officer.

“Council officers always carry official identification which can be produced on request.

“This is an extremely alarming situation and council has reported the matter to police for investigation.

“It is a horrifying prospect that dogs could be taken for an illegal blood sport such as dog fighting or just taken for commercial gain. If anyone does see this vehicle, I would urge them not to approach the driver but to record the registration details and report them to council (1300 883 699) or the police immediately.”
