Volunteer Awards presented
IN THE shadows of the TV Week Logies and the glitz and glamour of the red camera,
Gin Gin local and hard working volunteers Wendi Guy and Kathleen Aragona have been rewarded for their selfless dedication to the community.
Ms Guy has her fingers in many pots, stirring up strong participation from the community she loves.
Last week to their surprise Ms Guy and Mrs Aragona were awarded with new awards. The Wide Bay Volunteers Resource Association acknowledged their effort and decades of dedication of volunteering in their community.
Ms Guy was awarded the Excellence Award and a certificate for Volunteer of the Year, 2016.
Ms Guy said it was a surprise, and she was unaware of her nomination.
“I was nominated for my efforts of bringing back the cast and crew of the Gin Gin Theatrical Society,”
“I am very grateful and I want to thank the volunteers association for these awards and for the support from the theatre community for supporting our events in Gin Gin,”
The Theatrical group is in rehearsals for their coming dinner and show, of Lady Godiva.
Ms Guy is difficult to track down; most hours in her day are tied up volunteering her time to one organisation or another.
She was preparing herself for her slot on Gin Gin’s OWN radio station 104.9fm when Town and Country got to sit down for a one on one.
“It’s nice to be rewarded but it feels nicer to be doing something for my community,”
“It would be great to see more people dedicate a little time every week to an organisation, many are struggling and need support so they continue to provide services to locals,”
Ms Guy said the awards are driving her to produce a bigger and better production.
ANNUAL AWARDS: Wendi Guy and Kathleen Aragona both awarded for their hard work and dedication to volunteering.
