WOMEN IN LEAGUE
Six players selected for Bundaberg rep side
THIS year the Isis Devils Women’s team started with girls travelling from all over the district as far as Cherbourg, Maryborough, Hervey Bay, Bauple, and Biggenden along with Childers locals.
Six of the women from the team were selected to for Bundaberg Rep side.
For some of these ladies, it was their first time as a rep. The players that made up the women’s team were Jess Neil, Liberty Coombes, Sopha Fisher, Megan Menchinn, Sheree Jewess and Cindy Noffke.
Sheree Jewess was selected from the rep side to play for the central division representative team.
The Central Crows is the team name. The ladies train twice a week and are working hard and improving every week.
For many of the ladies, they have never played rugby league.
It’s the start of the season and the determination from these ladies will put them in for a good chance of winning the premiership.
Coach, Don Corrigan said they are struggling for player numbers for A-grade.
“The players we have are putting in a Herculean effort every week,”
“Many of our players are playing above and beyond expectations,”
Last weekend saw the Devils go down to Wallaroos at Maryborough, they held them off, for the first 20 minutes.
It was a top effort, considering the Devils were without several players.
This Saturday the team will travel to Hervey Bay to tackle the top team.
“We will let them know they are in a game,” coach said.
On June, 4 the Devils will host Brothers at the Childers showground in A-grade and Women’s.
Including the Wallaroos playing Maryborough Brothers in reserve grade.
Anybody wishing to play can come to training on Tuesday or Thursday evening from 6pm.
Isis Devils will host a Barefoot Bowls Day at the Isis Club on Churchill St, May 28 from 9.30am
Funds raised will go to the rugby club and for further information phone Alicia Robins on 0402 927 332.
