Kidding about for drought
THE Booyal Bunyips’ DVD fundraiser campaign made it to the upper echelons of power last week when local MP Stephen Bennett made a special mention of it in Queensland Parliament.
Booyal Central State School students helped film and edit the Kidding About for Drought DVD and even managed to rope in some celebrities to tell a joke or two.
Mr Bennett purchased the DVD earlier this year and was impressed with its high quality and the effort put in by the young entrepreneurs.
Mr Bennett said Queenslanders had a proud reputation for helping their mates in times of need.
“There are droughtstricken families, our fellow Queenslanders, who need our help,” he said.
Mr Bennett said singers such as Troy Cassar-Daley, Adam Brand and Beccy Cole were among the well-known names that feature in this wonderfully uplifting DVD.
The Kidding About for Drought project has been a challenging and immensely rewarding journey for the Bunyips, not only equipping these young students with skills and confidence, but also bringing smiles to the faces of many farming families doing it tough.
So far the school has raised about $3000, which is a great effort for a country school of 23 students.
But the students are not stopping there, aiming to fundraise $10,000.
“I can assure members that they are more than capable of reaching that target,” Mr Bennett told parliament.
“I would like to congratulate all students and staff involved in this heart-warming project.”
Mr Bennett urged the MPs to buy a copy of the DVD and support the cause.
