A-grade minor premiers prevail in the finals

SEASON one of the Bundaberg tennis fixtures has finished, with some very exciting results.

In the pennants final, Tim Hillyard’s season-leading team unfortunately had to face the final without him – due to injury.

P6 (Brett Leacy (res), Greg Michael, Sally Williams and Abdul Sirivella) faced a full strength P1 (Don Robinson, Clinton Honor, Shannon Newton and Michelle Donley).

It was a close match, with P1 leading by just one game after the first two sets.

The following two sets were even in score, keeping P1 at just one game, and they were able to take out the final two sets of the night, winning overall in games 31-27.

Congratulations to Don Robinson, who had a fantastic night, winning all of his sets while leading his team to season final victory. Congratulations P1.

In A-grade, minor premiers A3 (Chris Waghorne, Rob Dickie, Jan Jagers and Marilyn Kirk) showed real dominance against their A1 (Nadine Kirchner, Murray Bradford, Ken Milliken and Dawn McElligott) opponents.

A3 completed their season, with a straight sets victory, 6-2 6-2 6-1 7-6 6-1 6-1. Congratulations on an excellent season.

Don’t forget that this week is the first week of season 2.

The Bundaberg Tennis Association is happy to announce that we have been able to upgrade some of the club’s machinery and are making improvements to the roller shed.

Keep an eye out for these when next at the club.

All members are also welcome to join in on the fun on Tuesday nights with coaching from 6-8pm.

These sessions are excellent for all tennis abilities as they aim to improving stroke technique.
