The gateway to Childers wins awards
THE Bundaberg Business Awards Gala was held last Saturday night and the Gateway Motor Inn in Childers took home the two awards, one for Accommodation and the second, a President’s award.
Childers local and business owners Geoff Bassett and Nicole Skjaerbaek said it was a huge surprise when they were informed of their win.
‘“We would like to thank the Childers Chamber of Commerce, the Bundaberg Chamber of Commerce and the community for continuing to support us,” Mr Bassett said.
“We were also awarded the Presidents award, which was more surprising,” he said.
Each chamber in the Bundaberg region nominates a business, they believe has contributed towards the community and chamber throughout the year.
The award was chosen by the President of the Childers Chamber of Commerce for a Childers business.
The friendly duo arrived from Sydney in January 2014 with two children in toe, when the couple purchased the Gateway Motor Inn.
They traded in their city life styles, their suit and ties along with the long commutes between work and home to spend more valuable time with their young family.
“We have two children, both attend the Childers State school and we all enjoy being in Childers,” he said.
Between juggling family and business, the pair manages to find spare time to be actively involved with the Childers Chamber of Commerce as secretary’s and Isis District Little Athletics team.
The jet-setting pair have travelled the world and recently lived in Switzerland for two-years.
“We both studied a Masters in Hospitality at Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne,”
Mr Bassett said the application process was the perfect opportunity for the couple to review their business.
“We were also able to identify areas where we could improve and put into place plans for their families future,”
The business awards are a great opportunity to be recognised in your community.
Mr Bassett said he encouraged other business owners to join their local Chamber of Commerce as it supported local business.
WINNERS: Nicole Skjaerbaek and Geoff Bassett.
