The gate­way to Childers wins awards

THE Bund­aberg Busi­ness Awards Gala was held last Satur­day night and the Gate­way Mo­tor Inn in Childers took home the two awards, one for Ac­com­mo­da­tion and the sec­ond, a Pres­i­dent’s award.

Childers lo­cal and busi­ness own­ers Ge­off Bas­sett and Ni­cole Sk­jaer­baek said it was a huge sur­prise when they were in­formed of their win.

‘“We would like to thank the Childers Cham­ber of Com­merce, the Bund­aberg Cham­ber of Com­merce and the com­mu­nity for con­tin­u­ing to sup­port us,” Mr Bas­sett said.

“We were also awarded the Pres­i­dents award, which was more sur­pris­ing,” he said.

Each cham­ber in the Bund­aberg re­gion nom­i­nates a busi­ness, they be­lieve has con­trib­uted to­wards the com­mu­nity and cham­ber through­out the year.

The award was cho­sen by the Pres­i­dent of the Childers Cham­ber of Com­merce for a Childers busi­ness.

The friendly duo ar­rived from Syd­ney in Jan­uary 2014 with two chil­dren in toe, when the cou­ple pur­chased the Gate­way Mo­tor Inn.

They traded in their city life styles, their suit and ties along with the long com­mutes be­tween work and home to spend more valu­able time with their young fam­ily.

“We have two chil­dren, both at­tend the Childers State school and we all en­joy be­ing in Childers,” he said.

Be­tween jug­gling fam­ily and busi­ness, the pair man­ages to find spare time to be ac­tively in­volved with the Childers Cham­ber of Com­merce as sec­re­tary’s and Isis Dis­trict Lit­tle Ath­let­ics team.

The jet-set­ting pair have trav­elled the world and re­cently lived in Switzer­land for two-years.

“We both stud­ied a Masters in Hospitality at Ecole Hote­liere de Lau­sanne,”

Mr Bas­sett said the ap­pli­ca­tion process was the per­fect op­por­tu­nity for the cou­ple to re­view their busi­ness.

“We were also able to iden­tify ar­eas where we could im­prove and put into place plans for their fam­i­lies fu­ture,”

The busi­ness awards are a great op­por­tu­nity to be recog­nised in your com­mu­nity.

Mr Bas­sett said he en­cour­aged other busi­ness own­ers to join their lo­cal Cham­ber of Com­merce as it sup­ported lo­cal busi­ness.
