The open­ing round of the Club Cham­pi­onships saw a num­ber of fine scores in the pleas­ant con­di­tions. Larry Per­shouse recorded nett 67 to win the daily com­pe­ti­tion run in con­junc­tion with the cham­pi­onships. Peter Hut­ton with 68 nett was sec­ond on a count­back from Peter Hrelja, third on a count­back from Ivan Philpott. Run­downs went to Phil Luck­ett on 69, Craig Reynolds also on 69, Las­zlo Vol­gyesi, again on 69, fol­lowed by Bill Cowan on 70 and Ross Ni­col on 71. Clin­ton Dowl­ing (4.1m) won the pin­shot on 1and 10, no B Di­vi­sion player record­ing his name for an ap­proach. Mark McAu­lay (6.69m) won the A Di­vi­sion ap­proach on 4and 13, Larry Per­shouse (9.8m) win­ning the B Di­vi­sion ap­proach. The first round of the cham­pi­onships saw the fol­low­ing front run­ners. In A Grade for­mer cham­pion Clin­ton Dowl­ing (re­cent record equaller) and son Damien are locked to­gether at 76 gross; in B-grade Phil Luck­ett on 83 leads Peter Hut­ton on 87; and in C-grade Larry Per­shouse on 87 has a com­fort­able lead over last year’s cham­pion Roger Draper. Next Satur­day and Sun­day the Club Cham­pi­onships con­tinue to­gether with a daily com­pe­ti­tion open also to mem­bers who are not com­pet­ing in the cham­pi­onships. A ‘sausage siz­zle’ will fol­low Satur­day’s game. As usual for the Show Public Hol­i­day on Thurs­day mem­bers are in­vited to en­joy aB, B or B com­pe­ti­tion. Hit-off at 12.30pm. The “Pizza and Pasta” evening fol­low­ing the pre­sen­ta­tions and in con­junc­tion with a club “Happy Hour”, proved an­other suc­cess­ful oc­ca­sion for those who en­joyed the de­li­cious va­ri­ety of foods of­fered by He­len Ric­cia­rdi, very much ap­pre­ci­ated.


Vicki McAu­lay won the sin­gle stable­ford com­pe­ti­tion on Thurs­day with 39 points, from San­dra Kirk on 38, with Dianne Row­ley third on 37 points in a high scor­ing morn­ing of golf. This Thurs­day mem­bers are in­vited to join other mem­bers for the Show Public Hol­i­day B, B or B com­pe­ti­tion hit-off at 12.30pm. On Satur­day, the Club Cham­pi­onship be­gan, to­gether with a sin­gle stroke com­pe­ti­tion for the day. Kerry Sch­nack with 70 nett won the daily com­pe­ti­tion from Fiona Dowl­ing on 73, sec­ond on a count­back from Vicki McAu­lay, third also on a count­back from Lisa Cooney. Joy Cart­ner (0.57m) won the ladies’ ap­proach. In the cham­pi­onships the lead­ing play­ers af­ter the first round in A-grade are Fiona Dowl­ing on 85 from Robyn Robin­son on 89; in B Grade Kerry Sch­nack on 90 from Joy Cart­ner on 100; in C-grade Lisa Cooney on 103 from Joan Kelly on 106. The cham­pi­onship con­tin­ues next Satur­day and Sun­day, to­gether with a daily com­pe­ti­tion, open also to mem­bers not play­ing in the cham­pi­onship. Note: a ‘sausage siz­zle fol­lows the Satur­day game. The “Pizza and Pasta Night” af­ter pre­sen­ta­tions, to­gether with a Club “Happy Hour”, again proved a suc­cess for those who stayed to en­joy the chit chat and tasty food va­ri­eties, all very much ap­pre­ci­ated. Larry Per­shouse con­tin­ued his win­ning form with a nett 68 to win A Di­vi­sion from Niel Rieck on 69 and Ki­eth Rule on 70. Rusty Us­mar led the B Di­vi­sion field with 69 nett from Dean Page on 73 and Ed Con­nell on 74. Val Plath won the Ladies’ Di­vi­sion with 68 nett from Jen­nifer McKay 73 and Lisa Cooney on 75. Niel Rieck (in the hole) won the Men’s ap­proach on 1and10; Vicki McAu­lay (0.84m) the Ladies’ ap­proach on 6and15; and Paul McCar­ragher (0.1m) the Com­bined ap­proach on 4and 13. Ki­eth Rule led the Chook Run win­ners with 30 nett from Joy Cart­ner (31), Rusty Us­mar (32) and Col Den­nett (32) both on a spin. Next Tues­day, see you there for the 9.30am shot­gun start for the Childer­bor­ough Cup in Mary­bor­ough. At home a com­pe­ti­tion will be avail­able for those not go­ing to Mary­bor­ough.


A slightly cloudy morn­ing but just right for golf saw a small field take to the course with scores very close in most cases. Terry Small­man man­aged the win with a 32 los­ing 2.4 off his hand­i­cap, Bill Kirch­hoff was sec­ond on 34 with five play­ers man­ag­ing the same score but Bill on top af­ter a count­back and los­ing 1.4 and Stu­art Aitchi­son third los­ing 0.9. The least Putts went to Terry as did the Com­bined Long­est Drive; Al Ball won the A Grade Near­est the Pin on the 1st with Ross Nicols win­ning the B Grade Ap­proach on the 1st. The Cen­tre Fair­way shot was won by Rob Blows and the Near­est the Pin on the 4th and the Golden Cir­cle was won by Paul McCar­ragher with the dis­tance now be­ing 4.03m. Next week the May 29 will be played in Bund­aberg and those mem­bers who have not put their names down to play should ring Diane Row­ley, Leigh Hart or Paul McCar­ragher and book in. Tee off time will be 8am and the game will be a Two Per­son Am­brose. The week af­ter June 5, we will be play­ing at Bar­gara and as this is the first Sun­day in the Month it will also be Mug Day so a Stroke and Putt game. On July 17 we will play the Light­house So­cial Club at Isis Golf Club over 18 holes and on the Au­gust, 21 we will play at Oak­wood.
