40 Bri­bie Is­land bowlers vis­ited Woodgate to play so­cial bowls on Satur­day and on Sun­day to chal­lenge 40 Woodgate bowlers for the right to hold the shield for the next 12 months. Sun­day scores. Woodgate win­ning 7 rinks 367 points to Bri­bie 7 rinks 358 points. Woodgate win­ners by 9 points, over­all a very close match. Great weather both days, plenty of sun­shine, some very close games and old friends telling many a tale or two help­ing to make an en­joy­able week-end for all.

The se­cond round of the Club Cham­pi­onships and the daily Satur­day com­pe­ti­tion en­ticed a large num­ber of play­ers on to the course. Phil Luck­ett recorded nett 68 to win the daily com­pe­ti­tion on a count­back from Ivan Philpott. Peter Hrelja was third on 70 nett from Mark McAu­lay on 71, one of 6 with that score and who re­ceived run­downs: Bill Her­ring, Len Stal­lard, Nigel Radin, Roger Draper and Clin­ton Dowl­ing. Clin­ton Dowl­ing (3.7m) won the A Di­vi­sion pin­shot on 1 & 10 and Jeff Free­man (0.57m) the B Di­vi­sion ap­proach. Clin­ton (1.51m) also won the A Di­vi­sion pin­shot on 4 & 13, with no B Di­vi­sion player reach­ing the green. On Sun­day, fewer play­ers ar­rived with the daily win­ner be­ing Ken Al­bion on 72 nett on a count­back from Norm Plath, se­cond on a count­back from Bill Kingston. Dean Page with 73 re­ceived run­downs. Clin­ton (2.3m) won the A Di­vi­sion pin­shot; Dean Page (in the hole) the B Di­vi­sion ap­proach; Bill Kingston (1.25m) the B Di­vi­sion pin­shot on4&13. The se­cond and third rounds of the cham­pi­onships saw cur­rent A-grade cham­pion Clin­ton Dowl­ing on gross 226 move ahead of Damien; in B-grade Phil Luck­ett on 254 leads Peter Hut­ton on 262; and in C-grade Larry Per­shouse on 277 leads last year’s cham­pion Roger Draper. Next Satur­day the fi­nal round of the Club Cham­pi­onships will be held in con­junc­tion with the June Monthly Medals with an early hit-off at 11.30am Please bring a plate.

WOMEN

Kerry Sch­nack recorded a nett 68 in Thurs­day’s sin­gle stroke com­pe­ti­tion to win from Marg Den­nett on 73. Run­downs went to Vicki Wyeth (73), Vicki McAu­lay (74) and Joy Cart­ner (75). Vicki Wyeth (0.74m) also won the ladies’ ap­proach. This Thurs­day mem­bers play for the Monthly Medal for June and on Fri­day we play the next round of Pen­nants in Her­vey Bay. On Satur­day and Sun­day, the Club Cham­pi­onship con­tin­ued with the se­cond and third rounds to­gether with a sin­gle stroke com­pe­ti­tion for the day. Fiona Dowl­ing with 68 nett won the Satur­day daily com­pe­ti­tion from Mer­ryn Henke on 72, with run­downs to Kerry Sch­nack and Cyn­thia Draper both on 73. Cyn­thia (0.53) also won the ladies’ ap­proach. On Sun­day Fiona again won the daily com­pe­ti­tion with 72 nett from Joy Cart­ner on 75. Run­downs went to Vicki McAu­lay and Jennifer McKay. Fiona (0.47m) also won the Ladies’ ap­proach. In the cham­pi­onships the lead­ing play­ers af­ter the third round in A-grade are Fiona Dowl­ing on 249 from Cyn­thia Draper and Vicki McAu­lay; in B Grade Kerry Sch­nack on 285 from Joy Cart­ner, Co­ralie Vol­gyesi and Mon­ica Madsen; in C-grade Val Plath on 330 from Joan Kelly and Jennifer McKay. The cham­pi­onship con­cludes next Satur­day, to­gether with the Satur­day Monthly Medal, with mem­bers asked to bring a plate, please. RE­MEM­BER: Hit-off at 11.30am

VETS

A large contin­gent of our mem­bers jour­neyed to Mary­bor­ough in­tent on claim­ing the Childer­bor­ough Cup. Un­for­tu­nately the mar­gin was small but it was losing one. Next Year! The small numbers who stayed played a sin­gle stable­ford. Rusty Us­mar with 39 points won on count­back from Norm Plath, with a run­down to Ray Walker. Norm re­versed the sit­u­a­tion in the Chook Run win­ning from Rusty. Clin­ton Dowl­ing put his se­cond shot in the hole to win the com­bined ap­proach. Next Tues­day, see you there for the sin­gle stable­ford com­pe­ti­tion.

SO­CIAL

A chilly morn­ing greeted 19 play­ers for a game of 2 per­son Am­brose but as the morn­ing pro­gressed the tem­per­a­ture warmed up. The win­ners on the day and com­ing in with a 64 ½ were a cou­ple of Scrub­bers, Al Ball and Scott Lu­cas. Se­cond po­si­tion with a score of 66 ¾ was Nigel Ison and Stu­art Aitken­son with third place go­ing to Colin and Marg Den­nett with a 69 ¼ . All play­ers are re­minded to check their cards are filled in cor­rectly be­fore hand­ing them in to make sure no-one gets dis­qual­i­fied. The com­bined near­est the pin on the 2nd hole went to Terry Small­man. The A-Grade near­est the pin on the 14th hole went to Nigel Ison. The 3rd ball ap­proach on the 6th hole went to Peter Mac. Which ac­tu­ally landed in the hole for a birdy and Macca also took out the B-Grade ap­proach on the 17th Hole. The B-Grade long­est drive went to the guy that can hit a ball when a prize is in­volved Adam Smith. The A-grade long­est drive went to Marg Den­nett. Next week we will be play­ing Stroke and putt for the monthly mug at Bar­gara with Tee off at 8am. Any-one wish­ing to play that hasn’t put their name down, it would be ap­pre­ci­ated if they let one of the com­mit­tee mem­bers know so carts can be or­ga­nized. See you all next week at Bar­gara.
