YOUNG sporting hopeful Angel Kennedy is kicking great goals in AFL, and is setting her sights for a career in football.
AFL as a sport in Queensland is gaining more interest as young women are taking to the field with immense enthusiasm and support.
The 15-year-old is currently attending Isis District State High School and was first introduced to the game in Grade 5 by Auskick Australia.
Kennedy said the experience sparked her interest and she was hooked.
NRL is the game for many Queenslanders and with State of Origin in full swing, Kennedy is thinking of AFL.
In 2013 Kennedy started high school and decided to join the local touch football club and it sparked a new interest and passion.
In April 2015 she got word there would be Wide Bay AFL girls under 16s through Queensland School Sports.
Kennedy attended the trials and was selected for the team, playing in the State championships in Cairns later that year.
Over the next 12 months she developed further knowledge and skills of the game and prepared herself mentally and physically for the Wide Bay 2016 trials.
Kennedy’s hard work, passion and dedication made her train harder and focus on selection, spending all her spare time training.
Her skills and training made her once again successful in making the team and played in MacKay for the State selections.
With her natural ability in the positions of ruck, rover and back pocket she has a deep love for the sport.
Kennedy has now been chosen for the Queensland Maroon team and will attend the Nationals in Maroochydore on July 23.
“I am looking forward to Nationals next month and excited to be selected.
“I hope to someday meeting my idol Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy is very passionate about sport and is urging young women to be more active and involved.
With her mind focused on the Nationals, her training is set to kick into overdrive as she prepares for Maroochydore.
“I would like to be a role model for younger children and to encourage them to be active, healthy and have fun,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy has been able to achieve great goals in sport due to the support and encouragement from her family, team mates and coaching staff.
