$1m to maintain pool
Mayor Dempsey supports our hydrotheraphy facility
MAYOR Jack Dempsey has supported the announcement by Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt of a $300,000 commitment towards a hydrotherapy pool for Childers.
The mayor reinforced Mr Pitt’s comments that the pool would be a beneficial addition to therapeutic services, which Childers residents currently had to seek outside of their community.
Cr Dempsey said while the announcement was a welcome contribution towards a hydrotherapy pool, the total cost of providing and maintaining the facility could well be in excess of $1 million.
“There is a lot of planning needs to be undertaken to fully frame this project and my fellow councillors certainly need to have full input into the proposal.
“It would be a tremendous opportunity for a partnership arrangement between the State and Federal governments and council in delivering a project that would provide widespread benefits for the community.
“This is the type of project that could also lend itself to energy-saving initiatives like utilising solar power.
“Childers residents in the past have demonstrated a keen desire to have this facility available,” said Cr Dempsey.
It has been a long process for the residents of Childers, with the welcomed promise for support and money to support the build.
BIG SPLASH: Mayor Jack Dempsey.
