Thieves target Bunns Rd home

A CHILDERS woman has been dealt a dou­ble blow af­ter her fire-dam­aged home was tar­geted by thieves.

Childers po­lice of­fi­cer-in-charge Sergeant Ge­off Fay said on Tues­day af­ter­noon a small fire started at the Bunns Rd ad­dress be­fore later that night un­known of­fend­ers en­tered the house.

While the fire is not con­sid­ered sus­pi­cious, po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the theft of a cou­ple of bot­tles of scotch.

“The lady had a log in the fire the night be­fore be­cause of the cold weather and she went to clean the fire out and there was a log that she thought was out so she put it on a piece of news­pa­per on the floor,” Sgt Fay said.

“She was out­side mow­ing the lawn and about half an hour later she looked around and saw flames and the house was on fire. The fire bri­gade put it out.”

Sgt Fay said when the woman re­turned to the house Wed­nes­day morn­ing she found some­one had un­law­fully en­tered the house and stolen two bot­tles of scotch.
