A NEW childhood literacy program has been introduced to Cordalba State school.

The teaching staff are looking extra bright, sporting hot pink shirts promoting the ‘Building Blocks for Learning’, an Early Years Literacy Program. Based on the research by Dr Christensen, the program teaches phonological awareness skills and decoding skills to learner readers.

The Early Years at Cordalba were fortunate to attend a workshop to develop fundamental literacy skills.

The program was implemented for Prep to Year 3.

It encourages the development of oral language in students and the development in handwriting. Embraced by staff, it has now been extended to include Years 4 to 6.

PINK LADIES: Sue Lait, Angela Hunter, Peta Sykes, Jan Rayner, Leanne Jones and Karen Weiss.
