Childers set to host Se­niors Week events

BUND­ABERG Re­gional Coun­cil is part­ner­ing with the Com­mit­tee on the Age­ing Bund­aberg (COTA) and the Bund­aberg Re­gion Se­niors Net­work to de­liver a full cal­en­dar of events to cel­e­brate Se­niors Week from Au­gust 13 to 21.

Com­mu­nity and Cul­tural Ser­vices port­fo­lio spokesper­son Cr Judy Peters said Childers Arts Space (CHARTS) would hold Se­niors Week events under the COTA ban­ner.

“Se­niors Week is an op­por­tu­nity for all res­i­dents to cel­e­brate the val­ued con­tri­bu­tions se­niors make within our com­mu­nity,” Cr Peters said.

“Res­i­dents of all ages can also en­joy a morn­ing tea and floor talk with glass artist Neriel Dobbs at the Fifty Shades of Glass ex­hi­bi­tion at CHARTS on Au­gust 18.”

Cr Peters said the free Se­niors Week movie, The In­tern, at the Mon­crieff would also be an op­por­tu­nity for the coun­cil to of­fi­cially launch ticket sales for the Queens­land Sym­phony Orches­tra’s (QSO) per­for­mance of Han­del’s Mes­siah to be held on De­cem­ber 15.

Other events be­ing held as part of COTA’s lo­cal Se­niors Week cel­e­bra­tions in­clude the ac­knowl­edge­ment of all se­niors at church ser­vices through­out the re­gion on Au­gust 14, the Se­niors Expo at Bund­aberg Civic Centre on Au­gust 16 and free steam train rides at the Botanic Gar­den on Au­gust 19. The Gin Gin and Childers Neigh­bour­hood Cen­tres are also hold­ing ex­cit­ing events dur­ing Se­niors Week.
