Gin Gin row­ing club set for com­pe­ti­tion

A YOUNG fu­ture row­ing Olympian from Gin Gin is set­ting her sights high as she pre­pares for the up­com­ing Queens­land state cham­pi­onships.

Mad­di­son Clay­ton said she was ex­cited to be part of the row­ing team and look­ing for­ward to the cham­pi­onships.

The re­serve at Bucca will hold this year’s three-day event event from Septem­ber 17–19.

“I am try­ing to raise funds for new uni­forms and equip­ment for our team,” Mad­di­son said.

With Aus­tralian Olympians cur­rently in Rio, Mad­di­son has her sights set on Tokyo in 2020.

Her sup­port­ive mum, Marie said she was proud of her daugh­ter and was fo­cussing on the next Olympic games.

“We have a small club and we need more spon­sors and sup­port­ers, to help with the pur­chase of new equip­ment,” Marie said.

“We have a good chance in the State cham­pi­onships next month to bring home some medals,”

The Gin Gin com­mu­nity row­ing sup­port­ers club be­lieve in pro­mot­ing health and well be­ing of youth and pro­mote com­mu­nity.
