Get set for the Woodgate Beach fun run

Isis Town and Country - - SPORT -

THE starter’s gun is ready for the annual Woodgate Point to Park fun run event, organised by the Isis District State High School P&C.

President Sandra Webb said the event, now into its fourth year, continued to grow.

“Our run is well supported by local businesses and state and federal politicians, and the SES offer their services to ensure the beaches are closed to traffic,” Mrs Webb said.

This year, the run will be on Sunday, September 11, from 8am.

P&C secretary Kymm Cole said entrants could participate in a warm-up session with fitness leader Melinda Ricciardi.

“You can either run, walk or skip along the beautiful beach from the Banksia Park end toward North Shore and back,” Mrs Cole said.

“With distances ranging from 2, 5, 8 and 10km, of all ages and fitness levels.”

Mrs Cole said the fun run was not a timed event and parents with children in prams were able to join in.

Mrs Webb said every entrant would be in the running for prizes, including $400 for the largest team entry. Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett will be the official starter.

Registration forms can be found online at trybooking. com/201566 or register on the day from 7am. For more information, check out the Facebook page or phone Kymm Cole on 0427 262 510. THE Isis District Little Athletics Centre is excited to announce that for the first time it will be able to offer the sport to all age groups.

Adults are invited to sign up for their first season of competition as registered athletes with Queensland Athletics.

With the Little As season beginning on September 9, the adults division of the club will start shortly after on September 16.

Similar to the juniors, the adults will focus on improving their own results rather than comparisons between athletes.

Deputy centre manager Justin Lewis is excited about the new developments in the club.

Having grown up in the Little As club he is very keen to resume his participation in athletics.

“Not only is athletics a great physical challenge but the social side of the sport is an added bonus,” Mr Lewis said.

The junior training squad are keen to see some of the parents out on the track.

Young discus thrower Jackson Rehbein said he had plenty of fun at Little As and more people should have a go.
