WOOGATE has a new champion sportsman and a club that continues to produce outstanding results in bowls.

Some might suggest that lawn bowls might not qualify as a sport but for Woodgate local he has snatched the winners cup.

The humble champion bowler Greg Silverthorne is the 2016 A Grade Singles champion at Woodgate Beach Bowls Club.

This sportsman has something of a history with the sport, winning the under-15s Singles championship in Darwin many years ago.

In June of this year Silverthorne won the Bundaberg District Singles at Brothers Club defeating some well-known champions from the region.

Silverthorne has dedicated many hours per week to practice and the proof of that was shown on the green after defeating the previous winners in Burnett, Biloela and Port Curtis districts, Silverthorne was awarded the Zone Title.

Col Ensby and Rob Hannah, accompanied Silverthorne to his title matches and he thanks them both for their support and help.

The scheduled event on October 26-27, Silverthorne is set to join seven other Zone Singles winners at Musgrave Hill Club.

The teams will come to gather on the green to battle it out for the prestigious title of “Queensland State Champion of Champions Singles”.

It goes without saying Silverthorne has devoted many hours to practice and is in good step for a win.

There is no doubt that with Silverthorne’s dedication and passion for his sport he will go into this competition with a very good chance of a win and provide staunch competition for his opposition.

Silverthorne has the full support of the members of both men’s and ladies’ Woodgate Bowls Club teams.

Teams members of Silverthorne admire his skill, dedication and passion for the sport of bowls.

As Silverthorne prepares for the championship his fellow club members would like to wish him the best of luck for the next event.

The Woodgate Bowls members would like to thank the communities of Childers and Woodgate for supporting the club and game in bowls in Woodgate.

The Woodgate Bowls Club welcomes new members to sign up for either the women’s or men’s team.

The sea breeze gives players a spectacular location on the foreshore of Woodgate beach.

For further information and membership details, phone the club on 4126 8880.
