MOTOCROSS is a sport of high energy and adrenalin and for one keen local he has ridden away as champion.

Harrison Vellacott is a Year 11 student at Isis District High.

Vellacott recently competed at a regional motocross event in Chinchilla.

Vellacott had plenty of competition at the meet and competitors in the event came from the southern Queensland region.

The competition saw many great riders fight for the top spot in the competition and compete at a very high level.

Vellacott’s consistent performance at the competition saw him qualify for the state rounds.

The Chinchilla event was a great event for the young rider as he walked away with a second place and two firsts.

Over the years, and with plenty of competition wins, Vellacott has progressed through the ranks from 125cc to 250cc this year alone.

With all his dedication, training and passion Vellacott expects to be promoted to the senior ranks in motocross next year.

Isis High acting principal Chris Gill said the school was very proud of Harrison’s achievements.

Mr Gill said despite the travel and competition commitments required, Harrison managed to combine his studies at school and TAFE effectively to ensure he maintains his high level of achievement.

“Harrison continues the tradition of our students being outstanding representatives of not only Isis High, but also the Isis community,” he said.

“Senior students are very important role models for younger students, Harrison is no exception.

“His exploits will inspire younger students.

“Harrison will be a great asset to support and advise any young rider.”

In celebration of great achievement in the area of sports, Isis High School will host it’s annual awards ceremony recognising the outstanding performances of it’s students.

There will be two ceremonies on Tuesday, October 25.

The first will be conducted during the day from 10am and the second at 7pm.

Both ceremonies will be held at the Childers Community Stadium.

Harrison be a great asset to support and advise any young rider — Chris Gill
