Rural fire theft

Isis Town and Country - - News -

THIEVES have shown disregard for the safety of the community after draining the fuel from equipment vital to the Gregory River Rural Fire Service. Volunteer Mike Hetherington said he went to retrieve the mobile extinguisher from a shed on his property last week only to find it empty of fuel and with two D-links missing. “It hasn’t cost very much to replace but if we had needed to use it in an emergency, it could put people in danger,” he said. “If it was (the thieves’) house we were protecting, they’d be in trouble.” The Gregory River firies received a grant from the Community Gambling Fund this month which will help cover the cost of replacement.
