Showcasing June McCotter at the Gin Gin Gallery
THE look of surprise, shock and confusion swept over the face of Councillor Honor as he was handed a red sticky dot by artist June McCotter at her gallery opening in Gin Gin and the crowd was left in suspense.
Bundaberg Regional Council Cr Wayne Honor opened the latest exhibition the Gin Gin Courthouse Gallery last Saturday afternoon in front of a small group of passionate artists and friends.
As a token of her appreciation for his continual support of the arts and the community, Cr Honor was given the opportunity to take home a works by acclaimed artist McCotter.
Cr Honor ventured slowly through the exhibition and after serious consideration and of course under the watchful eye of his wife Judy, decided on the picture and placed the sticky dot on the painting.
Cr Honor said it was such a wonderful surprise and he was very grateful.
“This painting takes me to where I am most at home and that’s in the bush, looking at this picture reminds me of being out on a horse with nothing but the land,” he said.
“It’s a lovely painting and it seems very familiar when I look at it.”
Cr Honor said the region is home to many great artists and it’s important for residents and the community to support and see the talent works on display.
June is the founder and gallery co-ordinator of Heart of the Art Gallery and she can be found on Facebook.
She is encouraging locals and people travelling through to call in to the gallery for a look.
