UNION: PROVING you can’t keep a good team down, the Isis Crushers returned to form in the perfect way with a 43-5 win over The Waves Falcons last Friday night in the Spring Cup.

Keeping the opposition scoreless until well into the second half, the Crushers ran in seven tries to record a comfortable win in the end.

Led by their strong forwards including Jake Bauer, they punished the Falcons who had two players sent off in the first half for poor discipline.

Pleased with the team’s response after losing last week to the Turtles, captain Jason Palmer said he was happy with the team effort.

“Our discipline from that scrappy game is what we are proud of,” he said.

“Jake (Bauer) did well but our forwards did well (in the contest).”

The only negative from the game was an injury to prop Peter Van Rooyan who was taken to hospital with a right ribcage problem.

After being discharged from hospital on Saturday he is expected to make a full recovery from his injury.

With the guys now back in form, Palmer said the team had what it takes this season.

“Our lineout structures have really come along and we were able to get a couple of mauls and tries,” he said.

“We’re building on last year and we hope to go one better and get the grand final win this season.”

For the Falcons it was another disappointing match as they lost for the 14th straight time in the past two seasons.

Confident the team could turn it around, captain Fletcher Ericsson said they just needed more time.

“It’s only the second game of the season,” he said.

“We’ve got fitness, players and skills to match, we just need to do more work as a forward pack.

“Give us a couple more weeks of training and we will be the ones to watch.”

The Falcons will play the Turtles this weekend with Isis having the bye.

Show your team support and get behind the Crushers at their next home game.
