... the daredevil took a ride on a Harley Davidson for her 100th.

WITH a letter from the Queen in her hands, Ivy Myrtle Nowitzke, nee Reepsdorff, was congratulated for turning 100 on October 3.

The Reepsdorff family moved to Childers soon after Ivy was born in 1916.

When Ivy was only nine her mother died in childbirth, leaving her father to raise the family of five children.

Fortunately he had the support of family to help raise his children.

Life was hard, and the family struggled on together.

Ivy met Vic Nowitzke, who was destined to become her husband and the love of her life, when she was just 17.

Within two years Ivy and Vic were married and the proud parents of their first-born son, Don.

The couple wasted no time growing their family, with the birth of their second child, a daughter Beth followed by Verna 10 years later.

Sadly, Don died on his 15th birthday, after contracting pneumonia.

The family settled on a sugar cane farm in Childers just before Don's death.

It was difficult physical work and Ivy worked just as hard on the farm alongside her husband, as well as keeping the household running.

When the hard-working pair decided to retire from the farm, they moved their house down to Burrum Heads.

Unfortunately, Vic was diagnosed with prostate cancer and was a bedridden paraplegic for two years before he died.

Ivy insisted he remain at home and she cared for him devotedly for the remainder of his life.

Ivy has been on her own since 1980 and has carried on with her stubborn determination and positive attitude.

She has travelled extensively throughout Australia and has also been to New Zealand and Norfolk Island.

In addition to her three children, she has welcomed grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and has another great grandchild on the way.

Ivy continues to live in her own house in Burrum Heads, she loves doing puzzles, cooking and keeps up with current affairs.

She has a very positive attitude to life and takes enormous pride in her family's achievements.

Believing you are never too old to do anything, the daredevil took a ride on a Harley Davidson for her 100th birthday to the great surprise of her family.

There is no stopping Ivy.
