THE Bundaberg State Emergency Service unit is the pride of the State after being named SES Unit of the Year at an awards ceremony in Brisbane at the weekend.

The group is now the proud holders of the Commissioner’s Cup which signifies the leading SES unit across the state.

Bundaberg Regional Council Mayor Jack Dempsey who attended the presentation said the trophy was just reward for the high standards the Bundaberg SES unit had consistently achieved in recent times.

“These people are real heroes, orange heroes – in our community. We thank them, we thank their families and we thank their employers who provide them with time off to attend their SES commitments.

Local Controller of the Bundaberg Unit, Jeff Green said the outstanding support the unit received from the council went a long way to ensuring the group was able to operate at peak effectiveness.

“We have a unit that is high on morale, well-equipped and enjoying the role we play within the community.

“Our group has incredible communication with council, internal practices are good, membership is strong and group dynamics are very positive.”
