THE long-awaited new Gin Gin swimming pool amenities block is set to thrill the residents and patrons who visit the new and improved facilities of the public pool.

The old block was demolished several weeks ago, and with the years of planning and design, and the generous donation of $300,000 from the Gin Gin Bendigo Community Bank, the dream became a reality.

Director of Gin Gin Community Bank Susan Bengtson said the bank did not keep its profits.

“As a community bank all our profits go back to the community,” she said.

“We have donated over $800,000 into community projects and we will continue to support communities in the region.”

Proud of the community in which he works and lives, Bundaberg Regional Councillor Wayne Honor said the development is well over due and the old block was in desperate need of an upgrade.

The upgrades include new male and female bathrooms with plenty of showers, toilets, parent change rooms in male and female bathrooms and a huge disabled access bathroom with new state of the art tap fittings and a junior urinal for the young men in training.

Ms Bengtson said the new amenities block was exciting and thanked the council for its ongoing support.

“The building has been handed over and signed off, and ready for use,” she said.

A video of a walk through was posted on Gin Gin Community Bank Branch Facebook page last week.

It shows the women’s bathroom with three (free) hot water showers, four toilets and five change rooms.

It’s exciting for the residents: as summer approaches families will be encouraged to stay longer as the facilities support all families and age groups.

The uncover kids pool has had some minor repairs and maintenance and promises to be a huge hit with the toddlers.

The large grassed area has plenty of shade and families are encourage to spend the day.

Since the toddler pool was completed, talks were being held with the council to replace the amenities block as they were cracking apart and unable to meet the demands of the growing community.

The pool is open Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 11am-5pm.
