Artists invited to apply to paint murals on pumping station in Bargara
PUBLIC acceptance of a mural painted on a pump station switchboard cabinet at Bargara has been the catalyst for council to call for expressions of interest from artists interested in decorating a further nine cabinets.
The expressions of interest document provides a broad outline of the project and conditions to be met with the project to be completed in the current financial year.
Council’s community and cultural services portfolio spokesperson Cr Judy Peters said the EOI would canvass 12 requirements associated with the project which would be funded up to $10,000.
“The opportunity exists for one or up to nine artists to participate in the work.”
Cr Peters said the initiative invited the community to live with art and to witness a transformation of some otherwise uninteresting inanimate objects into a vibrant artistic message.
“It also provides an opportunity for all local artists to put forward a proposal that demonstrates their individuality and perceptions of messaging to be delivered through this artistic medium,” said Cr Peters.
“The location and lifestyle lend themselves perfectly to artistic concepts and this initiative will certainly add further points of interest and discussion for visitors and residents alike.
“The coastal lifestyle certainly embraces the notion that art is not exclusive to galleries and can be placed in settings that invite appreciation of the art and also the fabulous locations we are fortunate to enjoy in our region.”
Intending submitters should note that expressions of interest close at 5pm on Monday, November 21.
