Joondalup Times - - OPINION -

AN indigenous mural is bringing colour to Mullaloo Beach Primary School.

The mural was created by year 1 to 3 students with the help of artist Deborah Bonar, who has Gija and Yamatji heritage.

It is composed of intricate dots and features local indigenous symbols such as kangaroos and water sites, which symbolise the meaning of the word Mullaloo. The project aimed to teach students about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage.

Joondalup MLA Emily Hamilton visited the school earlier this year to check in on the progress of the mural.

The mural was funded using a $2000 from the City of Joondalup and $1000 from the school’s P&C.
