East Wanneroo given rezoning approval

Joondalup Times - - NEWS -

PLANNING Minister Rita Saffioti has approved a Metropolitan Region Scheme amendment to rezone 2206ha in east Wanneroo from ‘rural’ to ‘urban deferred’.

The amendment, which will be subject to Parliamentary processes, is touted to give landowners more certainty about future development in the City of Wanneroo’s eastern suburbs.

The rezoning would allow for future residential development, schools, commercial centres, public open space and conservation areas through the proposed east Wanneroo district structure plan.

The WA Planning Commission last month released the outcome of submissions into the amendment, which was first advertised two years ago.

“This amendment process started in 2016 and will bring greater certainty for many landowners,” Ms Saffioti said.

The City has invited public submissions on the draft amended local planning policy until June 26.
