Magic moment for Craigie mum

ALADDIN the Musical showed dreams really can come true with the magic of Disney after Craigie’s Justin Jordan approached Community News last month.

The father of two shared the story of his partner Rachel Carter’s health battle pre and post-lower spinal surgery after the birth of their sons Charlie (6) and Rhys (5).

What made the journey hardest for Carter to endure was it prevented her from doing something she loved most: belly dancing, which is how the couple met.

“In 2006, Rachel applied along with something like 40,000 people worldwide to dance at Tokyo Disneyland and she got the final nod for it,” Jordan said.

“She had a 12-month contract with Disney dancing in the Aladdin show, six shows a day, seven days a week.

“Other than having kids, it was one of the most scary, exciting and fun experiences of her life.”

When Carter was given tickets for her family to see

Aladdin the Musical at Crown Theatre Perth as a thank you gift by a former dance student, Jordan was given the idea to extend the surprise and asked if Community News could help organise a meet and greet for his partner with Genie, played by Gareth Jacobs, after the show.

Following more phone calls and emails, the plan was in place and Carter received the shock of her life after the Sunday matinee performance when she was approached by a company member.

“She thought she was in trouble for something,” Jordan said. “She was in awe when we got to go backstage and was in tears of joy that continued for about three hours afterwards.

“They had a chat and it turned out some acquaintances Genie (Jacobs) knows were dancers Rachel danced with in Japan. It’s a small world in Disney.

“I also tried to get some answers to how the carpet flew, but no one would tell me anything other than ‘Disney magic’.

“To give us that time was very appreciated because everyone in Aladdin is so busy.

“There are still people in the world with good hearts who are willing to help, which is what I wanted to show Rachel after what she’s been through.

“I quite often refer to her as my Disney princess.”
