Firing up for Games glory
VOLUNTEER firefighters warming up to compete at the Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games 2018 hope to ignite support with a fundraiser in Wanneroo on Saturday.
The City of Wanneroo fire services have three teams competing in the games to be held in Mandurah from October 28 to November 3.
Wanneroo Central Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade Lieutenant Evan Lawrence said one team included members of the central, Quinns Rocks and Two Rocks brigades, who would compete in the T20 cricket competition.
“We also have two teams comprising members from Wanneroo Central Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade who will be competing in firefighting-based skilled events such as the heavy-hose drill and burn-over drill,” Mr Lawrence said.
“These are timed events based on skills that we use on a day-to-day basis in bush firefighting.”
The brigade will hold a raffle of donated KTM motocross racing gear at Drover’s Market Place on October 6 from 9am to 4pm, selling tickets for $5.
Funds raised will go towards the registrations of members and teams competing at the games, accommodation, team uniforms and equipment.
