Fir­ing up for Games glory

VOL­UN­TEER fire­fight­ers warm­ing up to com­pete at the Aus­tralasian Po­lice and Emer­gency Ser­vices Games 2018 hope to ig­nite sup­port with a fundraiser in Wan­neroo on Satur­day.

The City of Wan­neroo fire ser­vices have three teams com­pet­ing in the games to be held in Man­durah from Oc­to­ber 28 to Novem­ber 3.

Wan­neroo Cen­tral Vol­un­teer Bush Fire Brigade Lieu­tenant Evan Lawrence said one team in­cluded mem­bers of the cen­tral, Quinns Rocks and Two Rocks brigades, who would com­pete in the T20 cricket com­pe­ti­tion.

“We also have two teams com­pris­ing mem­bers from Wan­neroo Cen­tral Vol­un­teer Bush Fire Brigade who will be com­pet­ing in fire­fight­ing-based skilled events such as the heavy-hose drill and burn-over drill,” Mr Lawrence said.

“Th­ese are timed events based on skills that we use on a day-to-day ba­sis in bush fire­fight­ing.”

The brigade will hold a raf­fle of do­nated KTM mo­tocross rac­ing gear at Drover’s Mar­ket Place on Oc­to­ber 6 from 9am to 4pm, sell­ing tick­ets for $5.

Funds raised will go to­wards the reg­is­tra­tions of mem­bers and teams com­pet­ing at the games, ac­com­mo­da­tion, team uni­forms and equip­ment.
