THE City of Wan­neroo is seek­ing pub­lic com­ment on its draft lo­cal en­vi­ron­men­tal strat­egy af­ter it was en­dorsed at the Septem­ber coun­cil meet­ing.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said the draft strat­egy out­lined the City’s over­all ap­proach to pro­tect­ing and man­ag­ing key en­vi­ron­men­tal re­sources and nat­u­ral trea­sures through­out the City.

“The City has many spe­cial and unique en­vi­ron­men­tal as­sets in­clud­ing 32km of coast­line, na­ture re­serves, wet­lands, a di­verse bush­land habi­tat and un­der­ground wa­ter re­sources,” she said.

The strat­egy iden­ti­fies six key themes: flora and fauna – bio­di­ver­sity and na­tive veg­e­ta­tion; land and waste – con­tam­i­na­tion and man­age­ment; com­mu­nity – sense of place and live­abil­ity; cli­mate and change im­pacts; air and en­ergy – in­clud­ing air qual­ity and en­ergy re­duc­tion; and wa­ter – in­clud­ing avail­abil­ity and qual­ity.

Sub­mis­sions can be made un­til Tues­day, Novem­ber 6.
