Abalone season opens this weekend
RECREATIONAL fishers will have their first chance to catch abalone when the season starts this Sunday.
The open season runs in the West Coast Zone from 7am to 8am on the first Sunday of each month from November to March.
Licensed fishers are permitted to catch the mollusc along the coast from Moore River to Busselton Jetty, with a daily bag limit of 15 Roe’s abalone.
The Department of Fisheries recommends protective footwear and a wetsuit or light clothing, loose-weave net bag for abalone, studying conditions and keeping an eye on the swell.
