Laws require dog owners to learn new tricks

LAWS requiring microchipping and registering of dogs come into effect on Sunday.

City of Wanneroo community safety and emergency management manager Trevor Prentis said the State law changes would require dogs older than three months to be microchipped from November 1.

“The new rules will help identify lost dogs and quickly reunite them with their owners, reducing inconvenience and pound costs,” he said. “The City will accept dog registrations without a microchip number but owners must provide the number before November 1 to avoid an infringement notice.”

Mr Prentis said the procedure could cost about $70. Dog owners can update their records online, by telephone, fax or in person at the Wanneroo Civic Centre or Clarkson Library. www.facebook.com/wanneroo-joondaluptimes
