PLANNING and sustainability director Philip St John will leave the City of Wanneroo later this year to return to the City of Fremantle.

Mr St John left a similar position at the port city in 2014 to join Wanneroo, but will return as its chief executive in May.

Mr St John said he was honoured to have the role.

“Having recently spent eight and a half wonderful years at Fremantle in the role of director of planning, I feel like I’m coming home to a city I know well and have great affection for,” he said.

“Fremantle has a wonderful history and is on track for a great future, so I feel very privileged to have this opportunity.”

Wanneroo chief executive Daniel Simms said the City was sorry to see the director leave, but understood it was an important career opportunity.

“Fremantle will again benefit from his great strengths, as we have at the City of Wanneroo,” he said.

“During his time with the City, Philip has assisted council in the implementation of our Local Housing Strategy and an improved customer focus to approvals and compliance activities within our planning and sustainability directorate.

“The City is working with Phil to develop a transition and replacement strategy to ensure the planning and sustainability directorate’s key focus areas remain a priority.”
