JOONDALUP city centre’s new multi-storey carpark was officially opened last Friday evening.

The $ 17.3 million carpark on Reid Promenade has 538 public car bays over five levelsand 28 private car bays for lease on a lower-ground level.

Licence plate recognition technology will enable ticketless parking, reducing waiting times at peak periods. It has the capability to install electric vehicle charging stations.

Ecologically sustainable initiatives have been included in the design including solar panels, smart lighting with LED fixtures and utilising natural daylight and ventilation, which contribute to minimising the operating costs.

Mayor Troy Pickard said the carpark would ease the pressure for parking spaces created by the growth of the city centre through an increase in local businesses, residential dwellings and the expansion of Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City.

“The multi-storey carpark is a very important project and the City has invested heavily in bringing it to fruition,” he said.

“Infrastructure like this is essential if we are to cater for the demand for parking from the many employers and employees who work in our city centre, as well as planning for those who will in the future.”

He praised the work of Georgiou Group for building the carpark and Hames Sharley Architects for its design.

The carpark is open between 6am and 8pm weekdays, excluding public holidays. An early bird, all-day fee of $4.50 is available before 8.30am.

Drivers can pay before leaving on each visit, or can apply to have a discounted monthly fee service, which can include an option to have a reserved parking bay for regular users.
