A WOOD­VALE father has this month been ac­cused of beat­ing his autis­tic son with a broom han­dle. Po­lice charged the man (45) with four counts of ag­gra­vated as­sault oc­ca­sion­ing bod­ily harm and one count of com­mon as­sault. Se­nior Sergeant Brad Bur­nett al­leged the father struck the 10-year-old boy, who lives with his mother, on the back of his legs while he was vis­it­ing his home on Fe­bru­ary 9. It is fur­ther al­leged he struck the boy’s bare feet. On an­other oc­ca­sion, he al­legedly hit his son in the right shin and force­fully clenched his face, caus­ing swelling. Po­lice charged the man on Fe­bru­ary 15. Sen-Sgt Bur­nett said the man was placed un­der strict pro­tec­tive con­di­tions and the boy re­mained in his mother’s cus­tody.
