IT was very sad to see the passing of the great American astronaut John Glenn at the age of 95.

Yes, he was famous and well known for naming Perth the City of Lights.

It was a great time for Perth and WA in those early days as not many people knew we existed.

Not even eastern states.

Everyone joined in with the City and we lit up for John Glenn as he passed over WA.

However, after the last event we had a laugh because, believe it or not, the only person who complained about the huge cost was the Mayor of Perth.

He was against the lights as a waste and a cost to ratepayers.

The Americans appreciated what we did and invited a Perth dignitary to America, all expenses paid.

Guess who attended?

Yes, you guessed absolutely right.

Unbelievable. CHARLIE GIBSON. Falcon.
