Police warn against clowning around

Joondalup Weekender - - News - Mark Donaldson

POLICE have emphasised they do not want to see a repeat of last year’s scary clown “stupidity” after a man in a fright mask scared two young girls as they walked to school in Padbury last week.

Hillarys Senior Sergeant Peter Feast said the offender was wearing a white mask with red hair when he twice frightened victims on Hepburn Avenue near Padbury Catholic Primary School last Thursday.

“The man jumped out with a fright mask on two occasions on the same morning,” he said.

“We’ve had no sightings or reports of it since; I think it might have just been a one-off.

“We don’t want to get into that clown situation they had a few months ago. It just causes chaos and people get upset.”

Sen Sgt Feast said the girls, both in Year 5, were panicked by the incident and ran when the man jumped out of bushes between Walter Padbury Boulevard and Gibson Avenue.

He said the school reported the matter to police before sending out a danger alert.
