Players in state of anticipation
WA faces a great challenge in the state game against Victoria in Melbourne this weekend, but it would not surprise me if the side came away with a win.
The grounds over there are different to what players are used to in the WAFL and VFL footballers use those conditions to their advantage.
I’m confident in the side WA has selected and satisfied to see West Perth players Aaron Black, Shane Nelson, Andrew Strijk, Kody Manning and Luke Meadows in the mix.
We’d be devastated to see a repeat of what happened 10 years ago when Victoria won at home by 119 points.
The state clash gives the rest of our players a 16-day break before we face East Perth on WA Day.
We expect Joe Morrow, Ben King and Chris Keunen to return from lengthy injuries.
It continues to be difficult to predict Matt Guadagnin’s return but he could be a chance to play in one of the grades against the Royals.
I was pleased with our 13.14 (92) to 7.18 (60) victory over Claremont at Arena Joondalup in tough weather conditions on Saturday.
The players had to work hard against a Tigers side desperate to fight the game out. We were fortunate to capitalise early with 6.3 in the first quarter, which put us in good stead when our accuracy dipped.
