Joondalup Weekender - - Opinion -

AT least with Rob Johnson and Russell Poliwka we have two reasonable aspirants for the Joondalup mayor job.

Hopefully it’ll make a difference when someone suggests yet again that $100 million (plus interest) of ratepayers’ brass be wasted on a performing arts centre, a facility which will be used by the few, most of whom don’t seem to live in the area but are very vocal about it being a necessity for the arts to grow.

Other than them, of course, its main purpose is to provide a good image for those councillors including the present mayor with plenty of photo opportunities and the chance to press the flesh with many that could further enhance their careers.

Then there are the others who are either failed state pollies only recently deposed who will use it as a vehicle back on to it.

I don’t usually bother with voting in local elections but will this time if only to try and stop Albert Jacob getting the position. ALAN HANSHAW, Ocean Reef
