APARTMENTS NOTHING MORE THAN PRISON BOXES

Joondalup Weekender - - Opinion -

THESE units are little boxes (Concern over apartments plan, Weekender Sept 14)

Little boxes like Joni Mitchell described in her song. Living-kitchen-meals areas that you couldn’t swing a cat in. Bedrooms that look out on to carparks and bedrooms that only have hi-light windows so they are like prison cells. A tiny kitchen with next to no useable bench space and bathrooms that are also the laundry. Nowhere to dry your clothes though.

The ground floor units have a little bit of courtyard space but most of it is paving.

Those on the first floor miss out because there is no communal green space where people can interact and have a chat. Social interaction is obviously not permitted.

The whole complex is gated. Is that to keep the inmates in or is it to keep everyone else out? Not a sociable or livable solution at all.

There have been many, many studies (City University of New York for one) that have researched and have published numerous articles regarding the social, physical and psychological harm done to the people living in high density dwellings similar to the flats proposed for the community of Edgewater.

This is a ‘no-brainer’ people . Stop this build and any others like it.
