Ocean Reef Marina update
A NEW agreement between State Government agency LandCorp and the City of Joondalup setting the framework for the development of the Ocean Reef Marina was signed on Tuesday.
The memorandum of understanding, signed by Lands Minister Rita Saffioti, LandCorp chief operations officer Dean Mudford and Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob and chief executive Garry Hunt, outlines how the two parties will work together to develop the vision, detailed design and delivery of the project in a timely manner.
In September, the State Government announced a funding commitment of $120 million over the life of the project, starting with $35 million over the next four years.
The project is also expected to attract private sector funding of more than $500 million.
Environmental and planning approvals have been reached via a Metropolitan Region Scheme amendment and Public Environmental Review processes submitted for approval. A project team is now also in place. LandCorp will lead the development of the marina, working closely with the City of Joondalup and other stakeholders, and construction is expected to start in 2020.
Mr Jacob, who is the former environment minister and Ocean Reef MLA, said the signing of the memorandum of understanding was a significant step forward for the project.
