Fast track to success

CHRISTOPHER Hummel’s passion for painting has led him to a win at a current art exhibition.

Christopher is a Year 11 student with autism who studies at Prendiville Catholic College’s Endeavour Centre.

Three of his pieces won the Student Award in the City of Joondalup’s annual Community Art Exhibition at Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City.

Christopher has had a keen interest in painting since he was nine and has developed a passion for painting trains in recent years, with inspiration coming from his fascination for cities of the world.

“In particular, he is verymuni d483494 knowledgeable about the different series of trains and varying graffiti art found on them in different cities,” teacher Sara George said.

She said with more than 90 completed canvases, Christopher’s portfolio was impressive.

“He has a regimented routine of painting each night and selecting his chosen work from the internet each weekend,” she said. “In addition, he paints at school and at any given opportunity.

“Apart from the satisfaction of completing a piece of art, his routine of painting is a necessary process to alleviate his anxiety.

“He feels a great sense of accomplishment when he is able to view his work, which is on display within the school grounds.”
