Loss takes wind out of our sails

Joondalup Weekender - - Sport - with Bill Monaghan

CLAREMONT is a lot better than what its record shows.

The Tigers have had two big recent wins against South Fremantle and Swan Districts so if we’re not on our game against them at Claremont Oval on Saturday, we’ll likely find ourselves in trouble.

We fought back strongly in the last quarter against Peel last weekend, but we allowed them the first two goals of the final quarter into a strong breeze, which was what cost us the match by three points.

There was only six goals kicked at that end for the whole game and 16 going the other way.

Jay van Berlo has proven a handy forward for us this season with his strong marking and accurate boot. We’ve adapted his role from the midfield into attack now he’s in the latter part of his career.

His five goals against Peel has left him as our second highest goal kicker behind Tyler Keitel.

Andrew Strijk returns against Claremont, while Connor West remains out after crushing his finger during a weights session last week.
