This year's Relay for Life Joondalup Wanneroo raised more than $300,000 for the WA Cancer Council.

MORE than 1000 people took part in the 2018 Relay for Life Joondalup Wanneroo, raising more than $300,000 for Cancer Council WA.

“Eighty cancer survivors took part in the opening lap of honour and attended the survivor afternoon tea,” fundraising coordinator Joanne Jones said. “For the first time, teams used cans of food rather than sand to hold their candle bag tributes in place for the moving candlelight ceremony.

“Hundreds of cans were collected and donated to The Salvation Army.”

The highest fundraising team at the October 20-21 relay at HBF Arena in Joondalup was The Bobby Dazzlers, captained by Julie-Ann Walsh, who raised more than $22,300.

Other award winners included the St Simon Peter team for best fancy dress, Kingsway Christian College for best decorated tent site and school with the most funds raised, the City of Joondalup’s Pink Ladies for the corporate team with most funds raised, St Joseph’s Northam for completing the most laps, and the Sleepwalkin’ Groovers for the best baton.

A team from Community News, the Weekenders, chipped in about $3400.

The Bobby Dazzlers team raised the most money for the 2018 Relay for Life Joondalup Wanneroo.
