SEA shanties and gospel music will reverberate through the historic centre of Guildford when the town’s inaugural singing festival hits the streets next month.

Guildford Association treasurer committee member Yvonne Henderson said the Guildford Songfest would feature 28 choirs and singing acts across the weekend.

“The Guildford Songfest will bring the joy of singing to visitors and the local community with concerts and workshops to be held in the town’s historic public buildings and churches,” she said.

“Against the backdrop of the 1829 settlement town’s picturesque heritage buildings and streetscapes, a wide variety of choirs will sing everything from sea shanties to barbershop songs, gospel and contemporary pop.

“The festival will feature a marquee concert in Stirling Square on Sunday, alongside the regular market.”

Ms Henderson said entry to all concerts and workshops were free thanks to the support of the City of Swan, Lotterywest and Perth Airport.
