LESMURDIE couple Serafina and Giuseppe Taddei celebrated a milestone 50 years together last month.

Serafina said it was love at first sight when she met the 22year-old Italian migrant at a family dance in Osborne Park in honour of St Anthony in 1966.

Raised by strict Italian parents, Serafina said only a short courtship was allowed.

“It was just over a year later that we married on September 30, 1967, at St Kieran’s Parish in Osborne Park,” she said.

“We started a family right away, with Gina our eldest daughter born, shortly followed by Lisa.

“In 1974 we decided to relocate from the Wanneroo area and make a new family home for ourselves in the Lesmurdie Hills.”

Here, the couple welcomed son Paul and youngest daughter Anna to the world.

Serafina said they worked extremely hard to create and maintain their family business in staircasing and wood turning.

“Although we are now both retired, the business continues and has been taken over by Paul,” she said.

Giuseppe and Serafina are grandparents to 10 grandchildren.

They range in age from four to 24.

Serafina said the couple believed it was not the easy times in marriage but the hard that were a true testimony to each other’s love and commitment.

The couple marked their anniversary with a family celebration, along with a weekend getaway and a trip overseas. Council at its Ordinary Meeting held 28 August 2017 resolved to adopt the revised P-DEV 20 – Outbuildings and Sea Containers Policy for the purpose of advertising.

The Policy has been reviewed and revised with the purpose of providing guidance for the community where there is a proposal to construct an outbuilding or incorporate a sea container on their property.
