Redevelopment master plan approved
THE Midland Oval redevelopment masterplan will move forward following years of deliberation after City of Swan councillors approved amendments to the plan at their meeting last Wednesday night.
Construction of the oval could begin as early as next month after the council voted to approve amendments to the adopted master plan, which included DeMol Group proceeding with construction.
The motion put forward by Councillor Mark Elliott also proposed an increase in green open space and an increase in public open space.
Councillors also voted in support of the Midland precinct oval business plan being sent out for public comment for three months before coming back to the council to be reviewed.
Save the Midland Oval group spokesman Patrick Irwin said he was “underwhelmed” with the decision.
“I am underwhelmed that the council seems to think giving a 4500sq m increase in open space is somehow a great concession,” he said.
“It’s basically a carpark space and that’s supposed to make up for losing the oval.
“They’ve refused to listen to the basic points that thousands of community members have put forward and instead have decided to go ahead with a concrete jungle.”
“There is no way in the world we will accept this.
“We have not given them permission to do this to our oval. We will be discussing our next step.
“The council is at war with Midland.”
