City gets its skates on for park at last

PE­TI­TION­ERS for a skate park in Mid­land have got their way.

The City of Swan re­solved ear­lier this month to set aside $850,000 for a fa­cil­ity in Gray Drive, Mid­vale, af­ter a pe­ti­tion was lodged at a spe­cial elec­tors meet­ing ear­lier this year.

The coun­cil de­cided to start plan­ning for the site at lot 300 af­ter re­ject­ing a coun­cil of­fi­cer’s rec­om­men­da­tion to hold off un­til the City’s open space and com­mu­nity build­ing strat­egy for Mid­land was fi­nalised.

The coun­cil asked its chief ex­ec­u­tive to find funds to en­able de­sign to be com­pleted this fi­nan­cial year ahead of con­struc­tion in mid-2019. The City will con­sult with pe­ti­tion­ers and stake­hold­ers.

Coun­cil­lors noted the skate park was re­quired to meet the needs of the com­mu­nity.
