Christmas comes early with carols and firework display
The Gumtree Church in Nulsen is inviting the Esperance community to get into the festive spirit and attend “Carols in the Carpark” on Saturday evening.
With Christmas just a week away, the Gumtree Christian Fellowship is holding a Christmas carols performance outside the church at 6.30pm.
Before the performance, the group will also man the barbecue for a sausage sizzle from 5.30pm.
On Christmas Day itself, the church will run a lunch from 11am, for which guests are asked to contribute their favourite Christmas nibbles.
Both events will take place at the church, which can be found at 69 Rouse Street in Nulsen. Meanwhile, the festive season has received a boost after the Shire of Esperance agreed to waive a $50,000 bond for the New Years Eve fireworks display.
Initially, the Rotary Club of Esperance expressed concern it would not be able to launch $15,000 of fireworks due to the Shire’s request for a bond.
The bond was to requested to ensure “the Esperance Waterfront was properly restored and reinstated after the foreshore event”.
However, the Shire has since reneged on its request for the bond and the display is set to go ahead.
The fireworks will be launched from a barge 200m off the coast at the foreshore.
